Stylist and Creative
Luisa Cruz
How did you develop your passion for fashion and styling?
From a young age, I have always been passionate about fashion. I simply love beautiful clothes and compositions.
What does style mean to you, and how do you see it as a form of self-expression?
Authenticity and originality define style for me. Always be yourself, regardless of others' opinions. Enjoy yourself, play, and explore.
Vintage fashion often comes with its own challenges, such as fit and wear. How do you overcome these challenges when styling vintage pieces?
It becomes more personal when it's not perfectly fitted. Since I know what I'm looking for, I can tell from a distance if it's something I'm interested in.
How do you strike a balance between current trends and vintage aesthetics in your styling?
Current trends often draw inspiration from the originals. It's more about finding the right timeless edge.
Sustainability often involves reimagining and repurposing. How do you approach the transformation of vintage garments into stylish, contemporary outfits?
I find it ingenious to revitalize old pieces and introduce them to new generations creatively. Gemme has achieved remarkable results in this regard, and I'm truly inspired by their efforts. It addresses a need in the market and helps more people discover secondhand clothing, especially if they lack the skills to find perfect pieces.
Can you share some sustainable fashion brands or designers that inspire your styling choices and resonate with your values?
Certainly, some brands and designers that align with my values include Better Us, Gemme, Ninety Percent, Manu Atelier, THEMOIRè, Rave Review, Prada Re-Nylon, Conner Ives, BITE Studios, Tekla, Weekday, CAES, Marine Serre, Del Moment, Chopova Lowena, Collina Strada, and Theory.
Many people are interested in fashion but might not know where to start. What advice do you have for individuals looking to incorporate vintage or sustainable pieces into their wardrobe?
A good starting point is a classic leather jacket. It's timeless, always in style, and versatile to style.
How do you stay up-to-date with the latest fashion trends while maintaining a focus on vintage and sustainable fashion?
Curiosity drives me to stay updated and conduct thorough research in the field.
Can you share a memorable experience or project where you felt particularly proud of the way you incorporated sustainability into your styling choices?
My work with Gemme stands out as a project where I felt proud of integrating sustainability into my styling.
Many people are looking to make more sustainable fashion choices in their daily lives. What advice do you have for individuals who want to adopt a more sustainable approach to their personal
style?
Consider buying secondhand, selling items you no longer use, and avoid purchasing new clothing if it's unnecessary. Be creative with your existing wardrobe, invest in quality pieces, and build a timeless basic wardrobe.
What's your go-to styling hack or secret that always seems to work wonders?
My go-to pieces are my old secondhand leather pants from Acne, a jersey or shirt, and my trusty tabi shoes.
If you were to describe your personal style in three words, what would they be?
Scandinavian with an international
touch, and a love for secondhand.
