Kurt
What first drew you to fashion, and how did your interest in styling evolve alongside your musical journey?
I’ve always been interested. My dad has always had a great style, he brings an effortless cool to it that has inspired me. But yeah I feel like as my musical taste evolves my style gets more varied.
How do you define your personal style, and what is the style of your artistic identity, KURT, inspired by?
KURT is my “white male” alter ego who wears a suit every single day. I guess it’s somewhat a political statement for me to wear a suit and what that represents. I love contrasts.
On a personal note I’m definitely on a journey. Both in music and with my style. I’m a very intuitive person I kind of do what I feel in the moment.
I might do a house record one day and a jazz record the day after. The same applies to my style but I would say I’m drawn to colorful and playful pieces and I like to mix it up so it becomes a bit “tomboy femme”.
What’s one fashion trend you hope never comes back?
This Y2K thing is ridiculous!
What’s your favorite vintage find?
My vintage Louis Vuitton calendar holder that I found in Florence.
Tell me a staple piece everyone should have in their closet?
A damn good pear of jeans. Speaking as a tall girl with a bum.
What’s your guilty pleasure when it comes to fashion?
Not so politically correct to say but the color pink! PINK, PINK and PINK! Such a yummy color.
What’s the most unusual or unique piece in your closet?
I don’t know if I have an extraordinary piece in my basic closet haha but a fun thing is that my daughter actually is rocking my wardrobe from my childhood.
What’s your go-to outfit when you perform?
My suit and tie. I’m in a Beatles phase. No judgement.
How do you keep your style fresh and exciting without constantly shopping?
Good question. I’ve been starting to think longevity. So I buy second hand mostly. My goal has been to have a strong base-wardrobe and go for timeless pieces that I won’t get tired of and can use in many different ways.
What’s the first fashion item you remember falling in love with?
My first engagement ring from Göran Kling.
Is there a particular era or decade that most inspires your music and style?
As a 90’s kid I most say the 90’s era is so simple, chick and timeless. But I also have a hippie living inside of me through the music and my personality so I would also love to live in the 70’s.
What’s your go-to accessory that you never leave the house without?
My silver earrings from all-blues.
What’s a fashion trend you’ve tried and loved, but didn’t expect to?
Flip Flops, seriously the most comfy thing and the fastest shoes / sandals to put on.
How do you decide what to wear for a special occasion?
I try to get inspired of the environment I’m going to be in. Are we outside? Are we in the grand city? Is it a date or just a hang out with the girls at home? I think I like to get inspired by the environment. Can get pretty fun if you go all out. go for timeless pieces that I won’t get tired of and can use in many different ways.
What’s a recent fashion find that you’re excited about?
I mean I love my suit and tie and I’m excited to play around with it.
Is there a fashion rule you always break or bend?
The people I look up to in fashion has just found their own tone which has build their own circle of seasons. That is goals to me. Not following, just find the confidence in my own skin and find the colors and forms that suits me and run with it so hard that nobody can’t say NO!
How do you approach shopping for new clothes—are you a planner or a spontaneous buyer?
I’ve been such a spontaneous buyer, which was a result of wasting clothes a lot. I’m a Pinterest lover so I save a lot of fun stuff that I like and if I see similar things when I’m out and about then it might be a match.
